A principle member of an act who have seen over 10 million records go under the till scanner and adored by the doe-eyed masses in her own right as a headline DJ. “What’s your name? What have you had?” Reach for the lasers, safe as fuck ... it’s Sister Bliss...

Progressive Trance/Ibiza Trance/Uplifting Trance (Or in layman’s terms just ‘Trance’) doesn’t really appear to have progressed much since its Cafe Del Mar honeymoon in the mid-nineties. The tried and tested formula of: 'steady build up + euphoric breakdown + anthemic chorus = an even more euphoric breakdown', still appears to provide the blue-print for most of the current big tracks. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time to do first-hand research into whether gent's dancefloor bottle-dueling was still standard-practice, although I'm reliably informed the purists are still there enjoying the scene.

Bliss keeps to the staple 4x4 trance beat and never really drifts out of the reliable tempo of 130-150 BPM. Most of the records chosen are lacking any real substance, however she does break from the formula on occasion with some tougher tracks by Marc Romboy, Underworld and Bangkok Impact. Euphoria is the key word here and this is life at the cleaner end of trance, think 1am in Ibiza with your £6 bottle of water and your nice mates, not 4pm in a Harlesden squat enjoying a mild brain hemorrhage, whilst carelessly wondering if that rather large Pitbull bites.

Unfortunately, my preconceptions of how bad current trance generally is are confirmed early in the second mix when a record by indie teeny-boppers 'The Enemy' is treated to an uplifting trance remix. Sadly, the dire results witnessed are about as uplifting as being accosted in a Godskitchen toilet queue by an upset young gentleman for looking (or not looking) at his beloved.

I’m afraid the weekend hasn’t landed, the free radicals inside me aren’t freakin', nor sadly will I be reaching for any lasers. However, this mix is not always quite as dreadful as you might expect.
